Circle Media’s Andy talks SEO

With thousands of company websites populating the internet each day, it’s vital your website is appearing for the relevant terms. Google is one of the most popular search engines, roughly averaging 3 billion search queries a day. As such, it has become increasingly important to rank in Google searches. There are many SEO services available online, but the trick is picking the right one. Make sure you know what you’re getting, ask questions and shop around for an SEO service that works for you and your business.

In a previous blog we discussed what SEO (search engine optimisation) is and many of the benefits that come from good SEO practice – which can be found here.

Andy talks website SEO

Today Andy shares some suggestions for sifting through the sea of businesses who offer SEO services to find companies you can rely on.

If you would prefer to read what Andy has to say, we have transcribed his advice for you below:

Howdy, It’s Andy Worland from Circle Media. I’d like to have a talk to you today about SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation.

Search Engine Optimisation is the art of making sure your site can be found on the search engines, particularly Google. 95% of all primary web searches are done using Google, so, it’s the only place to be seen. In 2010, there were about 350 million websites, now there’s about 1.1 billion. So, the market, as you can imagine, is exploding exponentially. It’s making it harder for people to have their sites found. So, the trick of it is, is to make sure your site’s found for the relevant terms, where you want it to be.

Hence, SEO. So, it’s picking out the search terms you want to be found for, the geographic area, and the right phraseology to make sure that people are finding your site for the right terms. So as a machinery dealer it’s used tractor, new tractor, second hand tractor, whatever it might be.

There’s a lot of companies out there though, who will telemarket you touting Google services: “We’ll get you on the front page of Google.” Look, some of those guys are doing great work, but there are a lot of them that are essentially a ruse. The reality is, you need to apply some rigor to those guys who are doing that, and the rigor comes in the forms of, “I want to speak to someone who’s used your services. Can you give me a case study of where it’s worked? Will you guarantee me that I’ll be on the front page of Google?” Generally if you apply those rigors, and those guys aren’t fair dinkum about it, it’ll show up pretty quickly. You’ll know straight away whether they’re in the game or not. And that’s not to say that there aren’t people out there who aren’t doing good work in the field. But there are a lot of guys out there, you know, who are essentially shysters.

Amy here, looks after our development work, looks after our SEO as well, it’s generally a fairly extended process, it’s not something that happens in a day or a week. It happens over time, to make sure, you know, that we’re testing it, try it, test it, try it. Amy does a fantastic job with it.

Amy: Thanks, Andy.

Andy: It’s something that just takes time to make happen properly.
